Leadership
Leadership is a lot about influence and relationships. To put it another way, it is about who you are and your impact on others. This ‘emotionally intelligent’ approach to leadership is where Lois can assist. She can assist you improve your leadership skills in general or your impact as a leader.
A leader has considerable influence over the culture in the work environment. You can’t rely on others to change an unproductive situation so must consistently consider your leadership impact on the workplace, and seek feedback from others. It’s up to you to create the environment you wish for yourself and others.

If you are a new leader here are some useful hints:
- Work hard to get alongside those who have the potential to cause you grief. Go out of your way to build a relationship with them that will survive the bad times. Where possible, make them part of your solution. Side-lining them will potentially increase their resistance to your efforts and create further conflict.
- When conflict arises deal with it straight away and invest the time required to fully understand what the conflict is about. It is seldom based on the initial issue so ask questions that will reveal underlying causes.
- Be prepared to make unpopular decisions in the face of opposition - this assumes you have done your homework first. People will admire your strength of will and your clear boundaries.
- Own what you are accountable for – do not get into blame even if it means taking it on the chin in a public forum.
